It was used for Julep - a type of fruit punch or refreshing beverage made from many different fruits. It is characteristic of the Muslim World It has nice Polychrome decorations over an earthenware body with two wonderful applied handles The decoration consists of stylized flowers in Blue, green and dark brown, which was probably purple or maroon when it was made, and has changed color over the centuries All this is against a toned white background This very piece obviously has spent most of its life underground This type of Julep bowls were characteristic of the Saracens - Arabs which controlled Spain for more than 4 centuries, and were expelled by united Christian forces in the mid/late 15th century - the time this bowl dates from It was found in the southern part of Andalusia, Spain, in the medieval castle around today's city of Huelva in the 1960s Measurements:  Approx. 10.25" wide handle to handle; 5.5" high; 7.25" top diameter; 4.75" the bottom one Condition: Excellent overall, EXTREMELY hard to find in this condition with handles still present!!!! Just a few very little spots of rough glaze, but definitely NO chips, flakes or heirlooms, hairlines and other defects AT ALL!!! Definitely a piece for very advanced collection!!!
