Buffier's Geographie Universelle, (Paris: Giffart, 1758). A copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. A very interesting and rare map showing California as an Island, Spanish New Mexico, large Spanish Florida, French Canada extending below the great lakes, British America shown as a small coastal strip. South America shows Granada or Terra Firma, Bazil, Amazon as a separate entity, Argentina Paraguay as La Plata, Patagonia as Magellanique (Magellan Land), Chile, and Uruguay. Color was most probably added later since most early maps were printed in black and white. Overall, A Beautiful Map that will frame up nicely.  Size: The map image measures approximately 5 1/2 by 7 inches on a 6 1/2 by 8" page as seen in the pic. Condition: The map is in Very Good or better condition for its age. It is a dark impression with bright vibrant hand coloring, blank on the reverse. There is a horizonal and a vertical fold.  The map is very nicely preserved with no defects to mention. Paper is cut away from the bottom left for folding into the atlas, as usual, it is not very noticeable when backed by a buffed matt board as can be seen in the pic above. The color is superb and very accurately represented in the pic. They don't get much better!
