Mazell.   This plate comes from the 1785 book:   Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, undertaken by the Command of His Majesty, for making discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere. Performed under the direction of Captains Cook, Clerke and Gore, in His Majesty's ships the Resolution and Discovery , in the years 1776, 1777, 1778, 1779 and 1780. In three volumes. Vol. I. and II. written by Captain James Cook, F.R.S. Vol. III. by Captain James King, LL.D. and F.R.S. ... The second edition. (with Atlas) London: Printed by H. Hughs, For G. Published by Captain James Cook.   This illustration comes from the second edition that was published in 1785. That edition included an Atlas. This illustration is Atlas plate number 8.   This engraved illustration is printed on laid paper that is 16 1/2" by 22 1/2" in size. The actual engraving is 6" by 9 3/8" in size.   This large engraved illustration page is in very good conditon, with some edge wear(couple of edge tears). As can be seen by the posted photos, there is a browning line around the engraving, showing where the print had been matted and framed. There are also two foxing spots near the engraving. There is NO foxing in the engraving itself. The engraving is in excellent condition.
