The box is all handmade, made of walnut tree, colored with vegetable dyes and varnished with shellac (gomalak). Overall condition is perfect. 24 cm (9.6 '') x 16 cm. (6.4 '') and 11 cm. (4.4'') in height. It is a quite heavy box. RRRARE What is EDIRNEKARI? Paint or varnish motives and compositions are applied to materials such as wood, carton and leather. This technique has been used since the 15th century and was first used in Edirne during the Ottoman era. It was named Edirnekari after spreading from Edirne to cities such as Istanbul, Diyarbakir, Bursa and Erzurum.
