I believe it to be a miniature salesman's sample of an early Victorian era fireplace mantle.  (I would not think it is a doll house piece or a giant doorstop.)  I believe it could date as far abck as the 1850's. There is no foundry marking on this. It is constructed of three parts which are bolted together and all threadings and nuts look original. It measures 12" high and the base is 13 1/4" x 3 1/2" and the back piece projects out about 1". It weighs a bit over 10 pounds. It has what looks to be original black paint. I would say it is either American or English. ..... Very attractive and decorative mantle opening..... REFERENCE: The only reference I could find was to a similar size piece described as a salesmans's sample. It had a vey plain simple round top opening, and the mantle top was either trimmed off or just had no shelf, and the base was detatched from the mantle. It was for sale on a UK site for over $400. CONDITION: Very good / extremely good condition as seen. I see no cracks, brakes or damage. The unpainted underside has some nominal corrosion as seen.
