O'Neill of Durham Grandfather ClockItem #:Y-12-0Title: 1820 English Georgian Grandfather Clock J. O'Neill of Durham Union of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Comment:This is a beautiful and grand tall case clock in an outstanding mahogany case by the O'Neill family of clock makers. The dial, in the still arch, shows the insignia of the Union of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal organization derived from English Oddfellows orders of the mid-1700s. The Latin motto reads, Amicitia Amor Eternitas, meaning Love and Friendship Forever. Inside the chapter ring is a seconds dial and a calendar dial. The vibrantly colorful oil painting on the dial and spandrels has been professionally cleaned and is original. The black roman numerals have been re-inked. The bonnet features a high swans neck pediment with a center carved acanthus leaf with turned columns on either side of the glazed bonnet door. The case shows smooth half round columns flanking either side of the rectangular case door. Lovely geometric mahogany trimming outlines the case and plinth. The case sets upon a square plinth set upon splayed feet. This is a fine eight day clock striking the hour on a cast bell.Condition:GOODIn overall good condition. Antique and vintage items by their very nature are used items and will show signs of normal wear due to age and use. As we define 'good condition' relative to the stated age of the piece, we would expect to see 'character marks' consistent with that age and could include nicks or dings on a piece of furniture, normal separation at joints in wood due to expansion and contraction over time, most locks functioning, most drawers and doors open or slide easily, some original trim may be missing, and there may be one or more splits in the wood due to age and use. If there has been a break in the marble, it has been repaired and the repair may be visible. There may be minor restoration that is visible. Chairs considered 'good condition' may have professional structural repairs but are considered to be structurally sound. These types of repairs may be visible upon close inspection. Upholstered items may show wear consistent with age and use and may need to be reupholstered. EuroLux Antiques makes no representation regarding the comfort or useability for the customer's particular application.ITEM SPECIFICSShows normal wear to finish and miscellaneous scratches, knicks and dings due to age and use. There is minor wood separation on the front door, a small piece of veneer missing on the face door, and minor damage to the bonnet door and crazing to the clock face. On the left side, there is minor damage to the trim, while on the right side there is a small hole in the side. There is also wood separation on the back and surface wear to the top of the left side.Clock Condition:Clock is in running condition.Key Included, may or may not be original key.Chime (Qtr or Half Hour or Music) Function: Not applicable.Strike (Hour) Function: Strike in working order.Dimensions: 90H 23W 9D Age (ca.):1820Origin:EnglandStyle:GeorgianMaterial:MahoganyObject:Grandfather ClockMark:J. Aimee & Greg Talbot at EuroLuxAntiquesTerms & ConditionsBy bidding, all Buyers bidding or purchasing any of EuroLux Antiques listings acknowledge that they have completely read and agree to all terms and conditions stated in EuroLux Antiques' Complete Terms and Conditions. EuroLux Antiques has painstakingly developed these policies and procedures to protect the Buyer and EuroLux Antiques, and not reading these policies will not be accepted as an excuse for the Buyer dissatisfaction.A Note About ShippingEuroLux Antiques takes a great deal of pride in its packing and shipping. Please keep in mind that packing fragile and irreplaceable vintage and antique items is not a quick or cheap endeavor. Proper packaging is expensive and bulky and takes a great deal of time to do the job correctly. Boxes are often far larger than most customers (or ebay) would imagine when packed properly. Occasionally, ebay's shipping calculator over-estimates shipping charges. We make a concerted effort to refund grossly excessive shipping charges whenever possible. When a customer selects UPS Ground, we sometimes ship with an equivalent service such as FedEx or DHL. The shipping charges are similar, and we have found these companies also offer our customers superior customer service. We also occasionally upgrade shipping from USPS Parcel Post to Priority or UPS/FedEx/DHL Ground. We are a small, family-owned business and our aim is to get your purchase to you as quickly as possible as safely as possible. Delays occasionally can occur due to not having the correct packaging material on hand or missing our regularly scheduled packaging pickup or drop off. We ask your consideration in matters such as these, and we try to communicate with you when delays push delivery out longer than our customers should normally anticipate. We value your inquiries should you have any questions or concerns at any time during our shipping process. Please, Do Not Request On-Line Appraisals of Your ItemsEuroLux Antiques receives many emails each day from people requesting additional information or appraisals regarding their items. Due to time constraints and the fact that appraising is a paid profession, we cannot possibly respond to all of these requests. If your item is of a similar nature to one you see in our listings, please take that as a guide to your item's potential value. We do not buy from individuals, and if you wish to sell your items, we might suggest listing them on an online sales site. We do, however, welcome additional information or corrections regarding any of our listings by collectors of these items. Thank you for your understanding. Thanks!
