These female figures of the JO society are called JO NYELENI They exhibit the physical characteristics of a young woman which is highly attractive and desirables to the young men. These statues are part of the symbols of Jo values. They are carried by the young initiates, the Jodenw, upon their initiation is completed, from village to village. The young men put on musical performances and dances, and advertise their desires for marriage. Please note:  Older pieces of African artifacts have imperfections due to time and wear.
