Description
This is a very rare ornate piano. Made by the Chickering company, I have not been able to find a serial number on this piano, according to the research I have done Chickering only made 5 to 10 of these a year between 1865 and 1870.   There are hundreds of thousands of piano pictures on the web. If you do a web search for Chickering Cocked Hat piano you will only find 3 or 4 that are still around, and they are in private collections or museums.   The style of the piano got it's name "Cocked Hat" due to the way it looked when the top was in the open position.  I am a piano rebuilder and purchased this piano some time ago to go into my small collection of rare pianos.  The piano was put in an off-white antique color at some point and time. The original finish was not stripped off prior to the application of the white paint. I did a few scrapes to remove the paint in a few areas that are not easily seen to reveal the nice warm Rosewood that lies hidden beneath the white paint.  The piano comes with a very ornate matching bench. I do not know if it is the original bench, but it complements the lines of the piano nicely.  If you would like to own a piano that would be truly unique and a true testimate to the style and quality that was only given to the premiere piano builder of that time in history, then this fine Chickering is for you.   I would be more than happy to talk to the winning bidder about rebuilding the piano to its former glory. The price for a complete rebuild would be about $15,000. I can show pictures of completed work and the contact information of my clients that I have rebuilt heirloom quality pianos for.   Shipping to any piano shop or business address within the cont 48 U.S. states is included in the price. If you are an individual, I can ship it to any commercial loading dock or rebuilder of your choice. If you want it taken to a home you can expect to pay a local piano mover to pick it up from the dock and get it to you, in most areas that ranges from $250 to $350. I arrange all my shipping with Keyboard Carriege you can expect an arrival time of 2 to 4 weeks depending on their schedule.    Thanks for looking.
