RITCHIE ~ Compass Binnacle with Sky Light & Cover' Description This is an outstanding and rare early 20th Century marked "E.S. RITCHIE & SONS BOSTON" brass (with bronze components ?) compass binnacle, complete with original sky light and brass sky light cover, with cap piece. The compass bezel is numbered "65527" and is maker marked there, too. What is rare about this piece is that everything is original. At one time it was set up with an electric light for low light conditions, and the socket is present under the brass sky light cover cap (see photo).  Measures approximately 12" high x 9 7/8ths" wide at the base. The base bezel is 1 5/16ths" wide with 6 holes for securing to the boat. The sky light is exceptional, with no chips or scratches. It consists of 6 glass panels and also is made of brass. It is approximately 6" high. The original brass sky light cover has a 3 1/2" long x 1 1/2" wide opening. The cover cap is removable and is heavy brass. It fits into the sky light @ top with  approximately 1/16ths" wiggle room. The compass is set on gimbals and functions correctly. It is marked "Sold by Northwest Instrument Co. Seattle". The unit has received a simply cleaning and light polishing. A metal refinishing job may be desired, to remove deep tarnishing, and this would really make it glow!  I will leave this matter up to the buyer.
