Description
This great phonograh is unusual and a piece of history!  I had this little beauty for about 20 years and originally the belt was still working and I was able to listen to the 5 cylinder records it comes with, but time made the belt go slack and it needs replacement.  The brass horn has a tiny split, also due to its age; but this doesn't detract from the sound!  These musical instruments are becoming more rare every year - so don't let this one slip away!  This is a Combination Model "D",  and can play both 2 and 4 minute cylinders, and was supplied with both "C" and "H" reproducers. This model was factory modified for use not only with standard cylinders, but with ICS Language cylinders, as well. The ICS cylinders were recorded at half the speed of music cylinders (80 vs. 160 rpm) so frequent adjustment of the speed was necessary.  By the time of the model "C" Standard, the speed control had been placed under the bedplate.  For this modified "D" however, it is placed back on top to facilitate frequent speed changes. The other enhancement that the ICS modification offered was a repeater that could repeat the last few sentences (grooves) from the cylinder. The lever for this is seen to the lower right of the reproducer. The Edison Standard Model D was an external horn phonograph that was put into production in October, 1908 at the time when Edison's 4-Minute black wax Amberol records were introduced.  The Standard Model D was also known as a "Combination Standard" because it was designed to play 2-Minute and 4-Minute wax cylinder records.   The Combination Standard was sold with a Model C reproducer for 2-Minute records and a Model H reproducer for 4-Minute records.  These floating, gravity weighted reproducers were actually developed by Edison's competitor Columbia, and Edison manufactured them under a licensing agreement.  Production on the Combination Standard ended in November, 1911. I've included some records also!  All in closable wood carrying case.  I'm downsizing and selling my second home and all has to go....I have a Victrola listed also!  Any questions or additional photos, please call 703.978.8916.  Local Pick-up Only! (please note that the first picture is from a web site and not the actual one for sale; the other photos are of the actual phonograph for sale)
