EXCEPTIONAL NEOLITHIC AMAZONITE BEAD Description : Outstanding Neolithic amazonite bead. The special flaring shape was beautifully rounded, and flatened on the sides, then delicately polished. Both side of the hole show evidence of the ancient biconical piercing technique. A wonderful desert patina embellishes this ancient little beauty. No modern damage, very well preserved. Origin : Found in the Western Sahara desert, Africa. Dating, hominid : This bead belongs to the Neolithique Culture, circa 5 000 years ago, and was conceived by Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Size : 1.60 cm X 1.20 cm Weight : 4.33 g What is found today of our prehistoric ancestor's jewelry is a window open onto a world of beauty and refined craftsmanship AMAZONITE ancient  beads :  Amazonite is a semi-precious hard stone relatively rare, cherished from times out of mind for the beauty of its subdued turquoise color and its healing properties in lithotherapy. It can be recognized by its pearly effect on the surface, and its uneven white streaks. The amazonite beads that we present here were delicately cut and  finely polished between the Neolithic and the Antiquity, as the pearcing technique and the beautiful patina can attest. Discovered amidst the sands of the Mauritanian desert, some of these beads were safely buried deep enough to keep their vibrant color, others took on a soft pastel tint as centuries slowly went by. Because amazonite is sensitive to thermic pressure, it looses its bright colors when it sustains high heat over a long period of time. These magnificent testimonies of millenary craftsmanship hold a priceless value ; yet it seems regrettable that they would end up in a  museum's dark drawer...                           They deserve to be worn and bloom again, around another neck, for another lifetime, or more ! sold with certificate of authenticity !
