Description
Sandybee Store Early Native Pine Needle Lidded Sewing Basket Search This is a wonderful pine needle basket that I have had in my own collection for over 40 years. The intricate weaving is beautifully executed, I have always believed this was produced by Louisiana southeastern Indians, perhaps the Coushatta. This basket is early 20th century. In wonderful condition. Five tightly woven circles woven together with center pine wheels make up the body of the basket. The lid is another circle with a star as the design. Firm woven swing handle. Round button for closure with loop. The button is bakelite( simichrome tested). The interior is the original pink satin lining. Measurements are: 6 1/4 inches high, 5 1/4 inches on each side. Handle is another 5 inches in height. In the interior pictures You will see an attached black string. I believe that at one time this was for an attached pin cushion--not during my ownership. The condition is almost mint. No breaks, and the lining is not stained or ruptured in any way. One very small blue stain toward the back on the top.
