The head has a round brass tag that reads: Elias Howe Jr. Inventor maker New York U.S.A. There is also a brass plate opposite the needle that reads:928448. Patented Sept. 10.--1846 Aug 24,1853--April 2, 1867--Aug 6, 1867-- Dec 20, 1870--Jan 30, 1872. There is a shuttle and bobbin with the head. It looks like the head is ready to sew as I still see thread guides, needle, and tension assembly on head. Head turns over freely. Bottom of head is oily from years of oil and use. There is mother of pearl glued to the flat surface on the head, I am not sure if that is original or something a previous owner put on for deco. *********I will probably be selling the cast iron base for this later.
