Description
Up for sale is a great piece of American history. This is a 'Jocko' hitching post from the legend of little Joques from George Washington crossing the Delaware. The history of these pieces range from stories of the casting being a tribute to a small freed slave boy that froze to death holding George Washingtons horse before they crossed the Deleware to attack the English Red Coats to those of the painted posts being used in the Underground Rail Road to mark safe houses. This is an original, unpainted one. It is cast iron and stands at 22" head to toe and 37" including the base. The only things that could be considered "wrong" with this piece is that the screw that hold on the hat have broken and the ring has been bent a little from use. I would really rather not ship this item. Any serious buyers should contact me about shipping before bidding, I will consider UPS ground but I am limited on how long their store is open, and I will require insurance on it. This is a very good peice and they seem to be getting rarer all the time. I am setting a price for a buy it now, but will consider SERIOUS offers on this item. Seller's note: I am not a collector and do not intend to be. I list all items with the best description I can. To a collector, there may be more “less visible” damage that I am not aware of. Please keep this in mind when bidding. No items are qualified as “MINT”, “GOOD”, “FAIR”, or “POOR” by any rating system out there. They are personal observations, for example a book is in 'good shape' means that by the age of the book it looks good, the binding is in one piece, pages are not missing and the covers may be dinged up but still there with no major damage. I will list any major visible damage that I can note, such as, pages torn, chips in glass/pottery, or other notable damages. We do accept returns IF the items we list are not considered up to the listings that we post. This will be on a case by case basis and subject to our listings including questions that I answer and post to the listings. Any questions may be addressed by e-mail or I can be contacted by phone at 712-623-3132 almost any time between 9 am and 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Iowa residents please add 7% sales tax. I offer combined shipping for many of the items I list, so if you win a couple please send me a note. There is always the option of a local pick up, so if you are in my area and want to save a little on postage, again, send me a note. I also appreciate feedback and will give feedback to all buyers as soon as I can. Thanks so much for shopping and happy bidding!
