Description
We are extremely pleased to offer a rare Squeeze box / accordion instrument in great condition with an old folk art inlaid wooden box. This instrument came from a country estate in Western New York. The squeeze box is in great condition with the bellows?? brightly decorated and NO holes. As you can see, the wood part is very decorative with what appears to be gold colored inlaid decoration. I am not completely positive the decoration is inlaid, painted or applied by some other means. The keys and covers are all made of some type of pearl material. All the keys and covers are in great condition with no cracks. There appears to be only one of the small keys missing. All the metal appears to be made of brass and in great condition. This is exactly as we received it and has not been cleaned or polished in any way. With a little cleaning this would definately be a show piece. I see no markings on the exterior of the instrument. The squeeze box is approx. 14 1/8 inches long and 4 3/4 inches wide. Without the bellows expanded it is approx. 5 3/4 inches high. This beautiful instrument comes with an unusual wood inlaid carrying case box. It appears the wood may be oak > As you can see in the photos the front has a large inlaid heart with a star in thee middle. It appears the heart may be a birdseye or curly maple. As you can see, near the key hole there is a tiny chip in the wood. Above the heart on the lid part is a triangle. The two latch hooks, top handle and hinges appear to be brass. Both ends of the box also have the large inlaid heart with a triangle on the top. The box is solid, in great condition and has a nice natural aged patina. It only shows a bit of crazing. The inside is lined in a red material. I was told this was at least over 100 years old. I have not found any markings on the instrument of the box as to a maker. I have never seen a squeeze box/accordion like this with such a beautiful carrying case box. I'm sorry but my photos and description do not do this piece justice. The box is approx. 15 inches long, 5 inches wide and 8 inches high to the top of the brass handle. We are offering this unusual piece with a very low reserve. Please feel free to ask questions or request additional photos. This would be a great addition to any collection. Good luck bidding. On Nov-19-08 at 10:35:21 PST, seller added the following information:PLEASE NOTE, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE DETERMINED AT THE END OF THE AUCTION DEPENDING ON AMOUNT OF INSURANCE AND DESTINATION.
