Description
SHAOLINTEMPLES EBAY SALES   PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO VIEW LARGER PICTURES    Hiroshige The Monkey Bridge formerly Kai Province or in Japanese Koyo Saruhashi no Dzu. 1840, original first strike wood block woodblock, signed Hiroshige hitsu. Publishers mark Tsutaya Kichizo. Good impression good color some fading, (please see the pictures). there is slight darkening in one small area, rather it is the paper or something else that is unknown. The paper is very thin, shows signs of the "rice paper" makings there are fibers in the paper and remaining on the paper. the size is 28.5 inches by 9 and 11/16. Or 72.39 centimeters by 24.29 centimeters.   Double oban kakemono-e.   A search of Sotheby's revealed no recent sales. However, in Sotheby's Catalogue dated November 9 and 10 1984, New York. Fine Japanese Prints and Decorative Works of Art, Item 175 is of an original first strike edition with a pre-sales estimate of $20,000 to $30,000. The final sale price is not available. The price midpoint of $25,000 is selected and carried forward to today's present value at the rate of 3 percent annual inflation the present value is $51,950.   The asking price was adjusted to account for the fading.  If some one has a more recent comparable sale of a circa 1840 original first strike of The Monkey Bridge, please kindly advise.  Thank You The upper oban was set lower and covers a small portion of the top of Mountain. Please examine the reverse pictures of the woodblock, the Mountain is present in its entirety.  There is one small hole the size of the point of a lead pencil. Say 1/16 of an inch, or 1.5mm. The print is from the estate of a couple that traveled throughout the orient during the early 1900's. The print was dismounted from the frame. There is a slight tacking at the top of the print to the backing, back board. This seems to be easily removed. The woodblock has been in my possession for about 15 years.   If you desire international shipping please inquire. Clicking the “Buy” button creates a binding contract.
