ITEM DESCRIPTION: This antique pelmet or valance of stunning fuchsia and white, may also have been used as an Altar Frontal. Exquisite metallic silver fringe is shimmering and abundant. This is a very old piece, from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The cut velvet pattern is so delicate along the swag bottom that it gives the appearance of lace. We have had several textile experts look at this piece and we all agree that we can not figure out how they dyed the fabric. The white cut velvet and the base fabric are one and the same!  Piece is not only unusual, but its condition is truly outstanding considering its age.  It came from a lovely old mansion in South America where it had been in storage for over a century!   CONDITION:Excellent condition considering its age. Some very minor yellowing to the white velvet, and some small tears in the fabric. Fringes are exquisite. APPROXIMATE AGE: ca. late 18th century - early 19th century APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS:Length: 13 feet.
