Printed in 1879, this is a beautifully colored, 129-year-old map of the Indian Nations as they were before the arrival of European settlers. It measures about 10 by 13 inches (about 27 by 34 cm.), and is in Fine condition. It is quite detailed, showing latitude and longitude, topographical features (rivers, mountains, etc.), and of course the various Indian nations. Outlines of current states and territories are lightly drawn for reference. This map shows major groupings, and tribes within them. For example, the Missouri River basin (in blue) is marked DAKOTAS, and within that territory are Osage, Missouri, Kansas, Arrapahoe, Ottoe, Omaha, Crow, Mandan, Sioux and related tribes. Likewise, the pink area around the eastern Great Lakes is marked IROQUOIS, and within that is Erie, Andaste, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Huron, Oneida and Mohawk. This is a guaranteed genuine antique map!It ships complete with certificate of authenticity documenting source, maker and date of printing.
