Gaskell and printed in 1891, this full color map of the Indian territory and the public lands that would become modern Oklahoma is 117 years old. The overall size measures about 11 by 14 inches and it is in Fine condition. It shows a huge amount of detail including latitude and longitude, topographical features (mountains, rivers, lakes, etc.), cities and villages, routes of old railroads, and more. The lands of the various Indian nations are clearly shown including Creek, Choctaw, Cheyenne, Seminole, Apache, Chickasaw, Commanche, Arapaho, Cherokee (inluding the Cherokee Outlet), Pawnee, Osage and many more. There are even several ghost towns on this map no longer in existence today. This map is fairly unique in two regards. First, the name "Oklahoma" does not appear - only Indian territory - and the Panhandle is the only Public Land, with the rest assigned to Indian nations, as originally intended. Second, the map shows OK in its entirety, without chopping off the pandhandle to show in an inset as most map makers of the period did.
