Description
Pretty Unusual Scraper, Mousterian DescriptionType: convex scraper on Levallois flakePaleolithic Period, Industry: Middle Paleolithic / Mousterian Dating: the particular site from approx. 130.000 B.C. / stage 6 of the oxygen-isotope chronology up to approx. 40.000 B.C Description: Size: length 3,9 cm, weight 10 grams Shape, Retouch: a very unusual scraper on Levallois flake with wide, fine faceted platform remnant. Although all edges of this tool present a lateral retouch, main working edge must have been the transition right edge / distal end: it presents a careful perfectly convex scraper retouch, terminated at the right edge with a small notch, and at the distal end with a well made nose. Certainly a particular purpose tool! Raw-material: creamy patinated flint Preservation: very well: the darker spot at the left edge looks as if it is a more recent abrasion which in no way detracts from the beauty of this uncommon tool Origin, Site: a famous Paleolithic site in the valley of a tributary of the Dordogne river, Dept. Dordogne, France, occupied by the Neanderthal (s)We have been listing more interesting paleolithic artifacts, please have a look! Do you have questions?
