But very recent archaeological research in Western Europe proved that the European continent has been conquested as early as 1,2 to 1,1 Myr. – Early Pleistocene (on request more information will be given to our customers Description: Size: length 7,4 cm, width 9,5 cm, thickness 2,0 cm, weight 150 grams Shape, Retouch: length 8,3 cm, weight 150 grams Shape, Retouch: light duty tools are, aside of the heavy duty tools as choppers, chopping tools and handaxes, important tools of the Lower Acheulian industry. They were used for cutting / drilling / scraping soft material such as meat, wood, bone a.s.o. At some Lower Acheulian sites, the majority of stone artifacts were light duty tools, as at the famous French site Caune de l’Arago, Tautavel. This one here is a flat disc like ovate flake without visible point of percussion. It presents a lateral retouch around almost the entire margin, except the thickest part, shown as proximal end in the pictures. Retouch is alternating in sections, means, some strikes were made on the exterior, some on the interior side Raw-material: a flake out of gray quartzite, the most common raw-material on the Garonne terraces Preservation: very well: flake scars are somewhat rounded, but still well defined.
