Description
Uncommon Convex Scraper, Mousterian, Famous Provenance DescriptionType: single convex scraper on flake Paleolithic Period, Industry: Middle Paleolithic: Mousterian / Mousterian in Acheulian Tradition (MAT)Dating: the particular site: ca. 55.000- 40.000 B.C Description: Size: length 5,2 cm, weight 26 grams Shape, Retouch: a flake with a domed exterior side, partly cortical, and a concave interior side (see cross-section). The scraper retouch at the right edge is a rare type and remarkable: it is made with considerable, but fine, steep parallel flaking, and the strikes were put one aside the next, with a tiny gap (usually flake scars are overlapping). The distal end of the tool presents a retouch as well. Remarkable is the proximal end /platform remnant of the tool, which is thinned on the exterior side with one strike and was used as scraper. The entire proximal end presents a continuous series of deep splintered use-scars on the exterior side, not only at the platform, but up to the transition proximal end / right edge which is proof for the modification to be made posterior to making the flake Raw-material: dark gray-brown flint Preservation: very well, no modern damages Additional Information, Literature: a scraper with an interresting retouch and of outstanding provenanceOrigin, Site: Le Moustier, the most famous Mousterian site in France We have been listing more interesting paleolithic artifacts, please have a look!
