Description
These extremely rare lounges were made by the husband and wife design team of Genevieve Dangles and Christian Defrance (Google them). Guariche, as well as Andre Motte and other well-known French designers of the period were all friends and fellow associates of the husband and wife team. Guariche even copied the team's signature black iron bases which were usually X-based, in his own designs. But, they were all friends so no one cared. Their "Saturne" low chairs, which I have attached a picture of goes for outrageous money ($10,000 to $20,000 for the pair). Their furniture pieces are in high end auction houses throughout the world, like Phillips, de Pury. These were probably made by Burov, France, as I believe all their seating was made by Burov. This pair of space age chairs are much rarer than the Saturne chairs. The last pair of Saturne chairs were at Phillips, de Pury Auction House, and the estimate was $12,000 for the pair. I found that a store in Europe has a pair for $20,000. Picture number 6 shows Genevieve Dangles sitting in a low-back version of the chairs that I have, with her husband/designer Christian Defrance standing. It's hard to make out but it is the same chair with a low back, mine are high backed lounges. So, here we go -- get ready for take off in these jetliner-style chairs with downward sloping arms. Arms are ovoid shaped and bubble outward, as well as the bottom of the chairs, which are rounded. These comfortable and good-sized, high-backed lounges are in newly upholstered condition in a neutral tan/medium mustard per the original lines. They could use a light cleaning, but not necessary. The glides are mint, as well as the base. I happened to get these straight from France, as I have a connection there. The third and fourth pictures show the chairs in their original checkered dark green fabric, which was worn but quite beautiful. The blue armchair is Guariche -- had two of them -- sold them. I have also attached one picture (number 7) that show the same chair, but armless. It looks better with the ovoid, downsloping arms. Last two pictures show the tip of the arm detail and true fabric color in picture #11, which is sort of a taupe/tan/mustard with black lines in it -- smooth with no itchy wool feel. I didn't pay cheap for these chairs. These are much, much rarer than the Saturne chairs, so they are not as known, but the design nevertheless is very uncommon and beautiful. They could easily be worth double the amount that I have here or more. The dimensions are: 37 inches in height 33 inches wide at the arms 33 inches deep from front to back If you are sitting on the chair, the top of the chair will hit slightly lower than the top of your head (I'm 5' 10"). So, most of your head rests against the back of the chair, making these true high-backed lounge chairs. Shipping is $150 via Plycon!! I pay anything over $150, which it will probably run around $300. These are high-end auction pieces. I am a fair person to deal with so make an offer for these if you are interested. Thank you. Ask any questions, etc. Thanks again.
